Good Idea? Bad Idea?

I'm not quite sure why I thought this blog thing was a good idea - but here I am doing it anyway.

I recently decided that my house needs some updates.  I'm tired of the orange colored wood, horrible paint job and colors, and the big white square that is not the focal point in the livingroom.  The big white square was originally a hole in the wall.  Thanks to my awesome borther inlaw - he was able to patch that right up for me.  And as much as I appreciate it - I can't stand to look at it any longer. Haha!

So today was pretty much DAY 1 in my mini renovation project.  I started taking everything off of the walls, pulling out nails, and hauling stuff that would get in my way downstairs.  Even though not a lot has been accomplished - I'm feeling pretty good about it so far. :-)

Most of the stuff that was on the walls was from the previous owner.  We had a coat hanger by the front door, these big black shelves, and majority of the nails.  Unfortunately, they left a lot of damage to the walls.  But - I am willing to learn and hoping that I will be able to fix it.  (keyword: hope)

I took a few pictures just to show what I have to work with.  There are a billion eye sores in this house, and I can't wait to try and make it pretty.  Its a cute cozy little home, but it definitely needs some TLC.  And thanks to my friends at HGTV, I'm feeling pretty darn confident that I can do this. Haha!  We'll see I guess.

My next plan of attack will probably be getting everything covered in plastic that needs to be covered.  I want to sand down all the wood trim and doors in the house.  After that I am going to start scraping down the walls to prep them for texturing.  That will be interesting.  I know that if I end up dying within the next decade it will probably be from the lead paint that I scratched off from the walls.  Either way, it has to be done regardless if I am risking my own life to do this.... I'm totally kidding by the way. Haha!

The Fan...Oh what can I say about this fan.  Not only is it ugly - one of the chains doesnt work.

Why?  Why choose this curtin rod out of all of the others in the store?  Why?
And just so you know, these holes are everywhere in the house.  Not just in the livingroom.  The folks on HGTV would be so disappointed in whoever did this.
Okay..so the front door isnt horrible.  However, I dont like that there are windows in it.  I'm kinda paranoid and when people come to the door I don't answer.  But they can see right in the livingroom and see if the TV is on.  How am I supposed to pretend I'm not home if they can see right in? Haha!

Oh yes - I got hurt.  You can't see the red marks that well - but they are there.  They hurt worse than they look. Those stinkin pliers.

The hallway.  The wood floor looks pretty nice here, but please be sure to notice the doorbell. :-) Awesome!

Wound #2.  A screwdriver.  This has happened before. I shouldn't be able to hold tools let alone use them.

DUN! DUN! DUN!  The white blob!!!!!!  My first idea after my brother inlaw patched it up was to paint a mural.  One kind of like on the show Modern Family above Lily's crib.  If you know what I'm talking about, you are probably laughing a little.

Three bedrooms, one bathroom, one kitchen, one livingroom, and one hallway to go.  If you decide to follow this - be prepared for accidents, more wounds, and hopefully a few laughs.

God Bless!
